When Speedy unexpectedly appears in Rachel's backyard she suspects he belongs to someone, but no one knows anything about him. Determined to help, she takes the friendly and charming little turtle to a pet store in hopes of finding him a home. Please don't leave me in this glass tank! Speedy thought. Realizing her mistake, Rachel returns to get him. Despite her best efforts to create a comfortable turtle enclosure, Rachel discovers that Speedy is angry and miserable being confined. Speedy wants to stay with Rachel, but it's on his terms. Rachel grants him his freedom. This marks the beginning of a long and wonderful journey between Speedy and Rachel.
